CASE STUDIES — Environmental Compliance: RoHS

Our client is a large interconnect manufacturing company in the northeast. They operate on the leading edge of the technology envelope on extremely aggressive projects and schedules. With the EU compliance deadline in sight and several new product development programs for board-to-board high density connectors using solder ball technology already underway, the company was unable to juggle their existing staff to accomplish both needs simultaneously without compromise. As a responsible steward of our environment, they realized  the RoHS project would require the uninterrupted focus of an experienced dedicated team to insure success.

IST’s environmental compliance team was able satisfy their needs. We were contracted to  work with their design and manufacturing teams to perform a RoHS, WEEE and ELV compliance assessment. As a result, we converted their Bills of Material (BOM) to a fully compliant status, and resolved many component engineering materials and manufacturing issues during the process. Our dedicated team provided 100% feedback of information, including technical documentation, regulation updates, EU Directive contact information, compliant materials substitution and design recommendations; and supply chain management requirements. Existing product families were prioritized for compliance conversion and new products under development received continuous input to insure compliance prior to design completion and product launch.

Because of our intimate knowledge and expertise of the European Union RoHS-WEEE-ELV Directives, we were able to develop a custom solution that included the following Deliverables:

  • RoHS Compliance Analysis
  • Survivability Test Programs
  • Material Workflow Analysis
  • Material Declaration Form
  • Replacement Material Recommendations
  • Marking and Labeling
  • Material Compliance Document
  • Corporate Policies and Practices
