CASE STUDIES — Strategic Alliance: Off-shore Manufacturing Partner

Sometimes our clients are required to establish a manufacturing presence off shore. This is true regardless of where a company’s roots are located; North America, Europe, or Pac-Asia. The motivation to undertake such a task varies among manufacturers, but most commonly, the need to be close to one’s customer base is the primary driving force behind this move. Over the years, IST has developed and maintained relationships with several foreign manufacturers and has initiated strategic alliances on behalf of our customers.

IST can fill the void. We typically accept assignments to help our customers find a suitable foreign manufacturing partner. Because of our relationships with these off shore manufacturers and our understanding of our customers requirements, we can make solid recommendations regarding the suitability of a potential foreign alliance. We help our customers short-cut the selection process. IST’s value proposition is to provide our selection and proffer introductions.

Strategic Alliances IST has participated in:

  • Initiated an alliance between a North American printed circuit board and electronic components manufacturer, and a European based electronic components manufacturer. The scope of this alliance included private branding, joint product development, and technology transfers between both parties.
  • Initiated an alliance between a vertically integrated electronic interconnects manufacturer in Taiwan and a west coast based semiconductor packaging manufacturer. The scope of this alliance included private branding, technology transfers, and the manufacture of our customers products in Taiwan.
  • Initiated an alliance between a New York based telecom component manufacturer and a Canadian based telecom enclosure manufacturer. Together, they’ve formed a new entity which provides the system integration of their products and introduced a value added, higher level of product directly to telecommunications providers.
